Developing the Jewel of Downtown in the Historic City Center
What began as a casual conversation about possible Downtown Partnership summer activities in
Acacia Park resulted in reflections on the current state of the park and beginning ideas for how to
improve this important city center gathering place. The possibility of improving the space as well as
larger downtown redevelopment ideas set the stage for HB&A architects and planners to unleash
their creative ideas on ways to improve the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. We invited all staff
to an initial meeting to talk about the park and its potential. Those who were interested were
encouraged to dig into the park history, the current use of the area, conduct interviews with various
user groups, and ultimately to develop a design concept for the park. To view the Acacia Park Concepts click here.
